Five stars from Piemonte

After introducing the new cooperation between Associazione LEGAMI and the five Piedmonts wineries, let’s get to know these winemakers and their wines, too.

ALEMAT, in Ponzano – Monferrato. It’s the youngest of our wine cellars and took off when Elisabetta and Savio decided to drop everything. A few years ago they actually left their previous activity in the metal mechanical technologies field to return to their roots, in Monferrato. Emilio, the former owner of those same vineyards, followed them but they’ve been learning fast! ALEMAT’s icon wine is Emilio, a Grignolino d’Asti doc. Elisabetta and Savio also produce Barbera d’Asti and Brunaldo, a very original interpretation of Croatina aged in tonneau.

GHIGA, in Castiglione Tinella, Langhe – area deserved to Moscato production. Enrico is the young guy who restored his grandfather’s farm equipping it with all the necessary technologies to produce wines from Moscato grapes. Icon wine of GHIGA is Moscato d’Asti docg. Enrico produces also a passito (raisin wine) with a selection of the best Moscato grapes dried on the barn.

PODERI ROSET, in Verduno, where the Langhe are dedicated to Barolo production. Nearly twenty years ago, Stefania and her husband Silvio – an oenologist –  took over the farm of the father. Silvio enlarged the vineyards area, growing also Pelaverga, a grape rediscovered in those years. Icon wine of PODERI ROSET is Verduno doc Pelaverga while Stefania and Silvio bottle Barolo and Barbera d’Alba, too.

PORELLO, in Canale d’Alba, in the heart of Roero. Marco is the third family generation taking care of both vineyard and cellar on the left bank of Tanaro river. Its sandy soil, very different from that of the nearby Langhe, give a specific identity to the wines of this region. Icon wine of PORELLO is Roero Arneis docg Camestri; Marco also produces Barbera d’Alba, Nebbiolo d’Alba and the red Roero Torretta.

SULIN, in Grazzano – Monferrato. Fabio and Mauro gathered all the family owned vineyards with their new Sulin project. They’re also very committed in the biodiversity safeguard of Piedmont autochthonous vines. SULIN icon wine is Ornella – a Barbera del Monferrato Superiore docg. Fabio and Mauro also produce a sparkling wine (Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay in blend) and the rare Casorzo doc (from a local red Malvasia grape).
